Oprah Winfrey said, “I had no idea that being my authentic self could make me as rich as I’ve become. If I had, I’d have done it a lot earlier.”
When I thought about her statement, I realized that for many years, even Oprah must have had limiting beliefs that held her back. There must have been certain habits or limiting beliefs that held her back from success during her early years as a broadcaster. At the age of 19, she became the youngest person and the first African-American woman to anchor the news in Nashville!
When you think about Oprah’s success in life, do you think that she had some kind of advantage in life that less successful people didn't? Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be Oprah?
Just think, you could:
Every person has a story, some stories enrich our lives and some stories are full of limiting beliefs that hold us back from reaching our true potential.
When we tell ourselves that we can do, be or have anything we want, that is a story that moves us toward success in our life.
When we tell ourselves that we will never make enough money, we will never be healthy, we don’t fit in, we will never be good enough, or we will never find the right partner; these stories and others like it, hold us back from our true potential.
When you see someone who you think is successful, what is your first thought? Is it:
The truth is, we all have the power to succeed in life!
More often than not, the only thing holding us back are the stories we tell ourselves about why we CAN’T do something instead of concentrating on why we CAN do something
Why I Decided To Come Out - My Story
Growing up, my 2 constant companions were FEAR & ANXIETY! My fear came from constant anger and abuse from my parents and the anxiety came from trying so hard to be good so their anger and abuse would be directed to someone else instead of me!
I was never very successful at keeping them from being angry and abusive towards me, but I got very good at blaming myself for “not being good.”
My mother would often look me straight in the face and say,
At one point I finally got it, I accepted that I was nothin, that I was worthless and that I would never amount to anything. It was really hard for me to understand why I had been born. I used to cry and ask God why I was still alive if I was so worthless. And then I would cry more because he never answered me!
Soon, feeling worthless became my belief and
Over the years, this truth became my story of who I thought I was and what I could OR COULD NOT could accomplish in my life.
When a child is told something often enough, he or she soon believes it to be truth.
My truths included:
