Virginia is the author of And Some Will Triumph, Stories of the Mentally Ill in a Correctional Setting and the Nurses Who Care For Them. Because of her own fight for knowledge about sadness, depression, and compulsive OCD behaviors for over 30 years, Virginia chose to work in the mental health field; with over 26 years as a psychiatric nurse in the jails. Throughout her years of caring for her patients she has experienced her own battles with mental health, fear for her life, and the daily challenges she faced being in a locked mental facility within the prison system. Virginia shares her heartfelt message on Choices 4 Women because she believes that someone has to bring awareness to what goes on once a person is behind bars. If you would like more information about the treatment of the mentally ill in the correctional facilities, the author has supplied us with a Grand Jury report.
