Why Does Life Feel So Heavy? | Clearing The Attic #7: The Weight
Every conversation begins with a metaphor.
The real conversation begins when you notice it in your own life.
Have you ever wondered why life can feel so heavy - even when you're doing everything you can to move forward?

Sometimes the weight we carry isn't physical. It's emotional. It's the invisible burden of beliefs we've been carrying for years.

Welcome to Clearing The Attic - a series of conversations exploring the boxes we've been carrying through life and what happens when we're willing to gently open them.

In Conversation #7: The Weight, I share a deeply personal story about my brother and the realization that transformed the way I understood grief, responsibility, and love. For years, I believed the weight I carried was about his suffering. But one day I discovered something unexpected. The weight wasn't coming from loving my brother. It was coming from a belief I had quietly been carrying for years. Many of us carry invisible rules that tell us we must do more, carry more, or somehow make ourselves smaller in order to honor someone else's pain. Perhaps the greatest weight we carry isn't love at all. Perhaps it's the belief that love requires us to carry what was never ours to hold. This conversation is an invitation to gently notice what you're carrying... and to ask whether life is really asking you to carry it at all. Until next time... Notice what weight you're carrying that may not be yours to hold.

🗝️ This Week's Attic InvitationThis week, notice where you may be carrying more than life is asking of you.
Perhaps you're trying to protect someone from pain.
Perhaps you feel responsible for fixing a situation.
Or perhaps you've quietly believed that your own happiness must wait until someone else is okay.
When you notice that feeling, don't try to change it.
Simply pause and ask yourself:
"What belief am I carrying?"
There isn't a right answer.
Just an invitation to notice.

👀 What Did You Notice?
Weight often feels like part of life.
So familiar that we stop questioning it.
But perhaps what feels heavy isn't the circumstance itself.
Perhaps it's the belief we've quietly been carrying about the circumstance.
Love doesn't become smaller when we stop carrying unnecessary weight.
It simply becomes freer.
And perhaps every weight is just another box in the attic.
One that gently invites us to notice what has always been here beneath everything we've been carrying.

The sensei picked up the teapot and began to pour tea into one of the cups.
When the cup was full, she kept pouring and soon tea was running down the sides of the cup and into the tray.

The student pointed to the cup and said, “Stop, can’t you see the cup is full and no more will go in?”
The sensei smiled and said, “Like this cup, your mind is full of what you believe and don’t believe.

Before you can learn more, you must empty your cup to make room.
